Quitting for the month and the year.

It's 2pm, NYE. There are hardly any games running, so I decided I would call it a month.

~31k hands. $57.7k and around $2.5k in rakeback coming to me, so we will call that a $60k month which is a little over £40k at the moment.

Really good results for me, but still not too happy that I only put in 30k hands when I have had a lot of time off uni. ~15k hands were at uni and ~15k hands at home. All in all this month I have played ~50 hours of poker.

At the start of the year I was solely playing 2/4, playing >50-60k hands a month for $20k. I'm glad with how much I have improved, and hope it will be the same way next year.

I can only think of 3 goals I wanna set for next year (though I am sure there are more and may add to them). In order of importance:

1) Have a better year than this year ($/work ethic/improvement to my game).
2) Buy property.
3) Play the World Series of Poker in the summer.

Gl for 09 everyone. Lets hope the poker economy stays strong.

Xmas round up.

Since the last update I have played two sessions. 27th and today. There has been too much going on to get any more done.

On the 27th I ended up +$6k, and today I ended up +$3k. Leaves the month at +$56k. I dunno how many hands I have played but it is probably around 25k.

I probably have 1 or 2 more playing days left of the year.

Back home - big screens, big swings.

I'm back home for xmas break.

Had a great day on Friday - lots of parties, followed by a big party at night, followed by a football match on Saturday which saw a lottttttt of hangovers. We won 6-0 which was suprising.

Came back on Saturday night. My extra monitor arrived so I have been playing on two 30" screens. It's prob a little too much, but it's pretty cool:

Played a lot of hands on Sunday. Finished -9k. It sucked. I lost a lot HU to a guy that really isn't very good. But sometimes that just happens I guess.

On Monday I played 300 odd hands, finished +7k, which was really nice - to bounce straight back from a losing session.

Today I played just over 1k hands and finished +10k. Won the biggest pot of my life during the session. Here it is:

Against a better player I don't like my shove on the river, but against him (from what I have played with him) it's fine.

I don't think I will get to play for a few days. Xmas eve is normally a big night out, and i'm fairly sure I wont have the desire to play on xmas day!!! Perhaps a couple of hands on Boxing Day. +$47k for the month.

Friday 19 December 2008

Round up of my week.

Or what I can remember of it.

Monday - had a session with the coach. Breakeven - boring session. Went out in the evening for a friends leaving party into the town centre.

Tuesday - lost 10k, went to the supermarket to collect alcohol totalled ~£100, got really drunk with friends, bought another 30" monitor for like £550.

Wednesday - Won 4.8k, went out to bar then club with friends.

Thursday (which is actually today) - Went to town, won 4.5k.

So all-in-all I have played under 3k hands and almost broke even on the week. I'm not sure how many more hands I will play. Tomorrow is a big xmas party at the uni, then Saturday is football then going out with friends from home. Then Sunday is football then going out with football friends... gah, maybe I will play a bit after that?

+$39k on the month so far. Round 15k hands probably.

Saturday 13 December 2008

What do I dooooo?

I went to sleep last night at around 8pm (8PM!!!). It must be like the only Friday night of the semester I havent gone out, partly cos of no one being around, partly cos of football this afternoon and partly cos I feel a bit ill.

So I get 12 hours of sleep and decide I will play poker before football. Half way through my session I get a text saying the game is off.. great. So now Its nearing 1 o'clock and playing my session definitely made me feel more ill.... I will prob still go out tonight though, but I have nothing to do for a good 6 hours or whatever. No poker - no football - no school work - watched all the available eps of LOST/Prison Break/Heroes - no one is around till tonight... what do I doooooo?

Oh, and the session went well (lost a few flips early on, but I realllllly don't think I can complain):

Wednesday 10 December 2008

2 exams over 1 to go.

Since last update I have played two days. Both of them were +3kish, so I am $27k for the month. With around 8-9k hands played.. which isn't a lot, but I just gotta remember I have had school stuff going on.

Looking forward to breaking up/ last exam on Friday, but I think it will be the hardest one!

Oh, also I have a lesson on Friday afternoon which I can't wait for as well.

Sunday 7 December 2008

Not looking forward to this week.

The two days prior to today were roughly breakeven.

Today I played 800 hands and finished +$3600. Month total stands at $21k having played around 7-8k hands. This week will be busy. I have 3 exams for my Business Management course, and two 2 hour lessons with my coach. I'm not sure how many hands I will be able to play aside from the lessons, but after this week I break up for Christmas - so I imagine I will be able to get plenty of hands in for the rest of December.

Thursday 4 December 2008

Back at home.

I had a good day 2 to December, then on the 3rd I didn't get to play cos I had to go to Portsmouth to play for uni, also I was v tired so had to go to bed really early.

Got up today and played a bit.. I can't get the graph to work but I played 1401 hands for a score of $6569.

Takes my total for the month to $17k ish. Good start.

Off out now into Lewes to watch some football/ have some beers.

Tuesday 2 December 2008

December... Day 1!

Today I had a session with my coach. The first $1300 was made waiting for him to get ready for the lesson, then the rest was the lesson. We ran well for the first 1/2 to 3/4 of the lesson then dropped 6k in the final 20mins or so, which was disappointing, but hey I def woulda taken 6.5k start to December, so I'm still happy. Crazy lesson though.

Next lesson is on Friday, which again, I am looking forward to.

Monday 1 December 2008

Novemgrrrr?

November has ended. After a good start, the last third of the month was pretty bad. One of the downswings is not shown as it was on the computer at home. However I was up around $5500 on the home computer this month, so it makes for a total of around $38k, plus the rakeback I will receive on the 5th of December, for this month, should total it at around $40k, which is around £26k.

I'm not really too happy with this month, as I thought it had potential to be a really decent month. I am happy with the amount of hands I put in, in the end - though that may as a result of the swings I was having toward the end of the month. I am also happy about playing a decent amount of 10/20 this month (by decent, I actually mean about 3k hands - but I am getting used to it).

I have a 2 hour session with my coach tomorrow, which hopefully should be the perfect start to December, and am looking forward to it.

Goals for December:
- More 10/20
- As many hands as possible - this should be a decent amount as I break up from uni mid-December.
-Not have 11BI downswings (please?). Or if I do, recover well.
-Research property more?

Friday 28 November 2008

Again again again

No graph can't be arsed. Basically played a morning session.. recovered the losses (+3k) played a night session, ended down 6k for the day, so like 9BI or sth in the evening session. Never had such a horrible week of poker. Today included some 10/20, some nasty hands there.

Month - $27k

Thursday 27 November 2008

Yeah, I don't like these days at all really

I did some uni work at the start of the day, went to watch my uni football team play as I am injured a little, then came back and played. It's now 4:30am I have to get up for lectures in 3 hours. If there were actually any games running at this time I would be playing them to get even. What a horrific day. Eveything seemed to annoy me during the session as well. Insane how in a week I can have 2 sessions where I drop 11buyins in 3k hands, I must have had that <5 times in my career.

Inbetween these two days I have been grinding out results. I am currently +34k. I'd imagine round about the same amount of hands too.

Deciding at the moment whether to go to sleep for a couple of hours or not.

Ughhhhh.....

Recovery part-two will start in the next day or two.

Monday 24 November 2008

Wowww. Stresssssssssssssssss.

Back home for the weekend

.

By far the craziest day I have ever played. I got set over set lost loads of flips on the way down, then hit quite a few sets on the way up and made some very thin calls, because I was stuck obv. Most of the situations were just getting it in with a slightly worse hand than my opponent in spots where it's pretty necessary to get the money in. I didn't run too badly in allin expected value terms but ran shockingly awful in those situational spots.

I'm not sure I played my best today though... but I'm sure as hell glad to have made it back to even. All 5/10.

Sleep time!

Addicted.

Actually put in a session for once!

Had class until 1 o'clock today. After that I came back and set about putting in a solid day. I lost a lot of ridic hands/ flips so to have a winning day like that is good. Also I can't really complain as I have been on the luckier side of things by a little this month. $31k month so far with 20k hands played, 10 days to go. I'll aim optimisticly for another 15k hands, and whatever $ amount comes with that.

Rob

Tuesday 18 November 2008

Enjoyable day.

I woke up at 12ish today, cos I went out yesterday night after football training. Went to do weekly shopping with friends, then came back and played some poker. Went up a bit then down a bit, and finished even (around hand 1600). Then I went out to meet some friends for dinner in town, which was nice. After that I came back and played a little, won around 2k, and called it a day. Also found out my cousin is pregnant which I am very happy about.

Lost a few flips today, and it didn't go my way a lot of the time, but grinded out a result anyway while playing nearly 2k hands. All in all, a good day. Would like more of the same.

Rob

Sunday 16 November 2008

45 minutes of play time.

I am back home for the day. I decided I'd play a session on iPoker. 45 minutes after I had started, I was 5k up, so decided to quit really. I'm not sure quite why to be honest. I guess I felt like it was a good $ number to stop at for the day. I'm also pretty tired. I can't remember the last day I didn't go out drinking or whatever. Probably a good thing.

Around +$25k for the month. Happy with it so far, would like it to continue, and play more hands as I can't have played many more than 15k hands.

Sunday 9 November 2008

Not many hands, but a few dollars.

I played football today for a 2pm KO for the university team. Went okay, I scored the opener as we won 5-0. Kinda just strolled around the middle of the park for the most part, breaking up play and giving the ball to anyone who wanted it. The other team were awful though, so it was an easy job.

I got back at around 5ish and decided to log some hands. I ended up playing around 1300, which I think on average I should be looking to play that amount every day really. That would run me pretty close to 40k hands/month which I need to be looking to get in. Around half as much as I played before coming to uni. The session went quite well, a score of ~4.2k. I think I really played quite well, and was generally satisfied that stuff happened like it was 'supposed' to, like AA beating T2cc all in pre flop. In that sense I guess I ran well, not really taking a beat of some sort.

I'm gonna try and log some hands tomorrow, though I have some work that needs doing, and also I think I'm going to watch the Guildford Flames ice hockey team, which should be fun, so getting in even 1k hands will be good.

Novembrrrrr

Okay so my graph from last month won’t get posted because it’s on two separate computers.

As for this month, it has started okay. I have played 4.5k hands, for around $9k. This winrate is good, I just need to put in more hands. I have played more than that in a day on multiple occasions. I have my excuses though - I have had work to do and Bonfire Night in Lewes to attend. But next week hopefully I can play quite a lot.

This week I had two sessions with my coach. We played lots of 10/20 which I am now getting comfortable with. The sessions were really good and enjoyable, and as an added bonus we won money!

So basically I need to play more handssssss in order to have a decent November.

Disgusting pt 2...

Back at uni, but still going kinda bad! At least I won some money, but as you may or may not be able to see I am $4.8k under expected value today. That sucks cos it makes it around 11-12k under expected value for the last couple of days, which could have boosted the month a lot. There were some really, realllllly bad hands, which I don't have time to post.. but they are horrible.

As it is, I can't really complain. I am up around $33k for the month, having played probably just under half of what I would usually play. Also $33k now = £20.5k because of the pound falling. I hope it continues, really.

This looks like it's the end of my month - I may play a tiny bit more if I can. Tomorrow I have a football match for the uni in Brighton, then am going out afterwards. On Thursday I have an assignment to do and 4 hours of classes, as well as football training and fencing, then on Friday it's a big night out for Halloween at the uni, which will be really cool..

I wont put up my monthly graph yet in case I do play more, but it will get posted.

Gl, Rob.

Monday 27 October 2008

Disgusting..

Will anotate later..

Monday 20 October 2008

I'm sick!

I have been pretty ill today (yes again - no idea why?), so played 2k hands in the afternoon (I didn't have class today).

Went well, finished +$4893. I got set-over-setted twice today though, which made earning 5 buyins difficult, though the games were pretty soft. I have no idea why - it was a Monday afternoon!

That puts me at ~28k for the month. A little more of a respectable score coming into the last 3rd of the month. I'm hoping for no downswings, please.

Now I am off out to drink some beers, hoping that will cure my cold? Maybe there is some sort of vitamin C beer I can drink.

Rob

Sunday 19 October 2008

Breakeven week, I guess.

Since last week I think I played 3 days.

The first was Tuesday I believe. That went not so good - in 2k hands I drop 10.1k at 5/10. I'm pretty shellshocked really and just quit. I then realise I have to go to UniSport and pay like £100 to join the gym in order to play football... I was not so happy. So I do that, then get back and decide to play a bit more for the night - I play some 5/10 and 10/20 and claw it back to -$6.5k. I was actually pretty happy about "only" losing 6.5k in the day. I got ridiculously unlucky, it was not pretty!

Then on Wednesday I played a bit and won a small amount - under $2k. I played so little because so much was going on - birthday parties, nights out etc. I also went to Arsenal v Everton courtesy of 888.com - it wasn't great, but probably worth going.

After Wednesday, the next time I played was today (Sunday). I had a Fencing lesson lined up for late at night with a friend from Uni (though she had fenced before so I was kind of anxious about going along), so if I had a big losing session I could stab some people!!

Fortunately I booked a win... just over 6k (was 7k but while typic this I have been playing and lost a little). For the month it's just over 23k which is okay - probably like $1/hand. These are good results, but I really need to put more hands in. Hopefully I will do this week.

I don't wanna miss out on anything
At the same time I feel the need to retreat
Everything is temporary these days
Might as well go out for a fifth night in a row

(The Rakes)

Sunday 12 October 2008

10k day.

I woke up at 2pm ish today cos I had two pretty heavy nights before it. One was in Fabric in London. I got back at 6am, then had a football match to attend in the morning. That sucked. I played kinda well, but didn't actually sprint once I don't think. Then straight after that I went to watch England play and a friend was visiting his girlfriend up here so we went out on the town again.

So got up at 2ish, then decided I would be playing a session today. Knew right from the off it was gonna be my day really. I think I only misplayed one hand today, and that was a bad call on the river in a 3bet pot. But apart from that I was really very happy with how I played. It's not really like I won a tonne of flips either (that's not to say I didn't get on the luckier side of things) but for the most part my bet sizing and general play was good. It also helped that the games were pretty soft today.

For the month i'm around +23.5k which I am pretty satified with to be honest, especially since I have only played around 15k hands. I did have a pretty brutal day where I was down 8k then clawed 3k back before I had to head off to a uni football match. I must say it hit me harder than when I used to lose that amount at home.. i'm not sure why, maybe because I had other things to do and could not play 20 hours straight to get it back or whatever. I'm definitely not looking forward to my next one of those, especially if it's before a lesson!

Good luck.

Rob

Tuesday 7 October 2008

Getting money and giving money!

I had half a day free, so decided to fire up a session for a few hours. I played 3.2k hands, it was a pretty crazy day.

Well basically I can't get the image to work (edit: just did.. see below) but in the first 900 hands I went down around -6k.. by the end of the session I was up around 6.5k!

Very happy with how this ended, cos obv I was pretty mad about how it was going. I def felt that I kept my composure while down large amounts, and got on with playing my own game.

Over the weekend I visited a site called World Vision (http://www.worldvision.com).

It's basically a charity site where you give a donation of $30 a month to sponsor a kid from a very poor background. I know poker players who always say yeahhhh I wanna find a decent charity to give to that doesn't take ages to set up. If you are one of those ppl - this is really easy (no kidding, you actually add donations to your basket!). Also under reliable sources found out it's pretty efficient in donating the actual money etc.

So I sponsored a 9 year old girl from Peru with the same birthday as me.. info:

Mary Luz lives with her brother, 1 brother, and 1 sister. Her brother struggles to provide for the family.

Mary Luz is growing up in a poor community in the Latin American country of Peru. Typical homes are constructed of wood, adobe or cement bricks. The roofs on these small homes are made of corrugated iron or straw. Children and their families survive on a diet high in carbohydrates like potatoes, corn, noodles and bread. Peru's terrain is picturesque with its high mountains and deep valleys.

Mary Luz is in primary school and she enjoys mathematics. She helps at home by washing dishes. She likes to play volleyball. She is in satisfactory health.

Apparently they write to you, so that will be fun to see. I always said I'd do it, just guess I decided now I was earning enough money I wouldn't really notice it, but someone else would.

Now if the poker gods want to repay me in karma, thats totally fine with me.

Jin: What's your name?
Mei: Mei
Jin: Mei?
Jin: Every girl here is named after a flower. Why is yours so plain?
Mei: I don't want to compete with those others girls. The flowers here can hardly be called flowers. Real flowers bloom in the wilderness.

The start of poker at uni?

I know I said I'd be writing the next few weeks off, because poker really takes up time, and it's time you don't have in the first few weeks of uni because there is so much going on...

..but, I have been pretty ill lately. I went out on Friday to this Shane Warne thing organised by 888.com which was a really really good night. I won a signed cricket ball, and Arsenal tickets, while drinking as much free drink and eating as much free food as I could. I also brought two cricketing friends along to play against Shane Warne, and they loved it, so that was cool. The problem was I had a bad cold (freshers flu?) and it made it worse. I stayed in bed a lot of Saturday, and also played around 500 hands of poker, which I ended +$1300. I'm really unsure as to whether this was a good idea. I felt really bad, and can't have been thinking at my best. I was really bored though, and suprisingly missing playing a lot.

I had a good long sleep and still felt bad in the morning today. I had to go to football trials though which sucks when you feel ill. I got through like 2-3 hours of playing football in the seering heat (prob just under room temperature). Then came back deliberated over whether or not to go out, in the end I couldn't get hold of anyone and felt kinda ill still.. so I decided to play a session.

I played around 1500 hands over 4-5 hours and ended +$3200. Something about it didn't feel quite right. People played worse against me than my results indicate. Also there is one hand that just threw me so much, I seriously had no idea what to do in any way:

Yeah, no analysis, cos, like, I have no idea what to do here, such a tough spot.

My first week of uni has just passed by. It's been pretty cool. There's an annoying factor of living a little bit of a walk from campus with a group of 3rd years. But they seem cool, the room is really new and I'm always elsewhere anyway. I have met lots of new cool people and start my course on Wednesday. I have 3 early starts (is there anything worse for a pro poker player??).

Being at uni around students definately brought up some (problems isn't the right word here, but i'll use it, cos it's nearly 1am and i'm kinda tired and can't think) problems. I was speaking to Brian about this sorta thing earlier:

Hitch says:
well, some of my friends...especially my uni one's think it is wrong that i can make so much money

Robbo says:
that line made me laugh

Robbo says:
its so true

Hitch says:
my friend seriously thinks working at a supermarket part time is tougher than playing poker

Robbo says:
thats clearly untrue. Ask him to lose 10k then see how he sleeps at night

Robbo says:
seriously your friend has a little bit of a skewed perception

After writing that I figured his friend is just a normal person, and probably a lot of people I tell especially young people struggling for money at uni are gonna have the same perception. Being a poker pro is easy, all you do is click your mouse and win a shit load of money while sitting in a nice comfy chair listening to The Thrills (I type that cos I am listening to them, and they are great).

So I'm not sure if I should tell people or to what extent I should tell people about poker. But the more I think about it the more I think it's inevitable people will know. A couple of people know already, along with the facts that I can't lie too well, and I will be getting drunk lots, which makes me talk about stuff I shouldn't!

*one note*: I underestimate playing poker for a living lots, but it's sure as hell harder than working in a supermarket.

"And remember that time when you told me that money wasn't real. Well old man, I'm 42 years old, and I finally realize what you were trying to tell me, so many years ago. I finally understand."

End of month.

I finished for the month on Friday. It's been a pretty bad month, but luckily I got in a few decent sessions towards the end of my month (I'm also lucky in the larger sense that I can consider ~26k/month to be bad). I move to Uni in like 12 hours so I'm writing off the rest of this month, and probably the first week or two of October as well. After that though I'll be looking to play as much as possible while still at Uni. It may be hard and also a bit stressful but hopefully I will be able to manage it.

Better start packing I guess...

Wednesday 17 September 2008

Still getting destroyed.

The last two days have been just the same as the previous 5 days or so before them. Either getting my money in good, and losing, or just getting in crappy spots... and also losing.

I had a coaching session yesterday, for 2 hours. For the first 1 and a half hours we got soooo unlucky. Ran into aces lots, a higher full house, got 2 outered, and generally just got into terrible spots. In the final 30 minutes we clawed some of it back, but still ended down money.

For the month I'm +13k, and will probably only be playing another 4 or 5 days this month. It looks like it is my worst month ever as a pro so far (winrate wise) but the good thing is I actually feel pretty confident in my game at the moment... which is wierd, cos those two things would def not normally go hand in hand.

Over the next few days, I plan to play a lot. Also I have a coaching session on Thursday, which I plan to win a lot of money in... (please?)

May the wind always be at your back and the sun upon your face and may the wings of destiny carry you aloft to dance with the stars.

( I just watched Blow)

Rant.

I'm getting absolutely destroyed. I'm not even losing much money (if at all) cos they games are so good I can just grind the money back from the bad players. The money I'm losing is to regs that are running rediculously good v me in big pots.

I have 82% equity here. Though it is against Hitch, which makes it slightly better and less annoying than losing to a lot of other regs.

Am ~15k for the month which isn't a disaster or anything, but still kind of a downer cos of how great last month was, and I wanted a big month before I set off for uni.

Listening to The Verve's album at the moment and it's awesome. Have a football match today, then menna be going to the dogs tonight which I'm not too fond of.. so might just drop like a grand on a random dog to make it exciting.
